Q: Basic Homemade Salsa recipe?
I just need a basic recipe for salsa…I Know its tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, cilantro, garlic, jalapenos and lime juice but how much of each…Just a basic one that I can adjust to my liking…I just need base to play around with..

A: you kindof have it already
tomatos approx 4 large/8 small
2 cloves garlic
1/2 small white or red onion
cilantro – tops of 1 bunch
juice of 1 lime or 1/2 lemon
salt to taste
jalapeno # depends on how hot you like it try adding them 1 at a time
i don’t use bell peppers
ground cumin to taste
put all of the above in a blender and blend til everything is well chopped
if you like it chunkier use a food processor.

Q: Can I have a good mild salsa recipe with only these basic ingredients?
I have various spices around the house, and ketchup and garlic. I also have prego. Do I need anything more for mild salsa recipe? Regardless, good I get a good recipe with things that I would have? IE, nothing with tomatoes ( i have ketchup and prego ) and no jalepenos or chilis. Just kethup, garlic, prego, and spices. Oh, and I have chili sauce.

A: nope, you can’t make salsa with ketchup. ketchup has sugar and other ingredients that don’t come in a basic salsa. defniitely don’t use prego- that’s an italian flavored sauce and you don’t want italian spices in a mexican salsa. :)

i would forget salsa until you can get to the store and buy the right stuff. don’t be afraid of chiles and jalapenos- those don’t make it hot, they just give salsa flavor. it all depends on the quantity you use. if you use 5 chiles, then yes it will be hot. if you use 1, it will be mild and very pleasant.

here’s a basic recipe i used first starting out.

Ranchero Salsa
3-4 tomatoes (depending on how spicy you want the salsa. after making it, if it is too hot, just add more tomatoes)
1 jalapeno (or half can of mild diced chiles)
1/2 onion
1-2 tsp cumin
salt and pepper to taste
juice of one small mexican lime (or juice from half of a normal lime)
few sprigs of cilantro, chopped (optional)

Boil the jalapeno and tomatoes on the stove until skins are soft but not broken. Put tomatoes into the blender. Cut the jalapeno in half and scrape out veins and seeds with a spoon. (that takes out the hottest flavor- the seeds and veins are what is spicy!) Add jalapeno, onion, lime juice, cilantro, cumin, salt and pepper to blender. Fill the blender app. 1/3 full with water. Blend until smooth (or chunky- your preference!) Let cool slightly before serving. Yum yum yum!!! :)

Btw… my mom doesn’t like spicy things but she loves my salsa!

Q: Does anyone know a simple recipe for salsa?

Q: give me a basic recipe to make homemade salsa and tell me when/where i would add additional peppers for +heat?
i can get all sorts of peppers but i would like to learn how to properly integrate them into the salsa instead of just putting them on top like a garnish. best answer goes to the best tasting!

A: I have one of those Kitchen…Maid….3000 thingies…infomercial style salsa maker… Cheesy and embarrassing, but it makes great salsa.
But I’m sure just chopping and mixing works too:

Roma Tomatoes
Garlic
Onion
Jalapeno (or hotter habanero or serano)
Shot of Tequila
Cilantro
Lemon or Lime Juice
Little salt.

Edit: Do not forget the shot of tequila. Very key.

Q: Good Ideas for a tasty, tangy and basic recipe for a salsa sauce?

A: It just depends on what protein are you going to use thus tangy sauce for?
Usually toasting or roasting your tomatoes and chiles give a tasty flavor to as sauce with the addition of garlic and onion with a hint of cilantro. Remeber to blend all this ingredients and add salt at the end for tasty! If you choose to use chicken or pork, I suggest to use tomatillo (a small green tomato) which gives tangy to the plate!

Hope this helps

Q: Any great salsa recipes?
I’ve been getting a bunch of tomatoes from the farmers market lately and making some great pico de gallo. Now I’m ready to step it up into salsa. I’m looking for a basic table salsa, like what you would find at a restaurant. Those are cooked a bit, aren’t they? I don’t want it super chunky, but not all watery either. Last time I was told to food process the salsa to make it less chunky, but I ended up just liquefying the tomato and everything was watery. Not what I wanted. Anyway, if you have some nice salsa recipes to share I’d appreciate it. Preferably with some heat to it.

Thanks!
I’ve tried that. I get a bit overwhelmed by all the choices and I’d prefer to get a recipe that someone can vouch for and tell me is great.

A: chips and salsa

6 large ripe tomatoes

8-12 oz roasted chopped green chile

1 bunch cilantro (corriander leaves)

3 cloves garlic (finely diced or use a garlic press)

6-9 green onions

1 medium sized onion (color or type is your preference)

1 large ripe avocado (optional)

salt to taste.

I begin by dicing the tomatoes. Home-grown tomatoes are best, or, if you live an agricultural area, road-side stand tomatoes or store bought work just as well. Living in Northern Arizona, i don’t always find appropriately juicy tomatoes, so when they aren’t available, i use 2 large cans of peeled whole tomatoes. I always add the diced green chile next. If I don’t have fresh green chile available to peel and chop myself, I recommend frozen, diced green chile (Albuquerque Brand is my favorite). I mix these two ingredients and then add my salt and garlic. Garlic powder works well, too, if that is all you have handy. Green onions can be sliced to your liking, i love big chunks of these. Next chop the cilantro leaves and add. Dried cilantro leaves work, but they scent isn’t as strong and therefore i prefer the fresh. Dice the onion and add it to the mixture. I like to dice an avocado and add to this, however if i am taking it to work, i often leave the avocado out, as it is not everyone’s favorite. I do have some friends who love my salsa, but don’t like to mess with the chunkiness of it, so for them i take part of the salsa i’ve made and run it thru the blender. tastes just as good, but no big pieces to try to scoop.

I not only use this salsa as a dip, but on tacos, or any mexican dish i want to add a little extra to. If i’m making it for someone who really likes it hot, I add a few jalapenos or small yellow hot peppers diced very finely. If you use fresh tomatoes and you feel the salsa is a little dry, add one small can of tomato sauce. It blends well and adds the saucy texture

Q: I am hungry and I don’t know what to eat?
I’m hungry and I want to make something small to eat. I’m not a good cook. I cannot go to the store and buy something or ingredients. I don’t have hot dogs or much at all in my house.. No salsa, pretty much only the basics like Eggs, Cheese, Basic Vegetables and etc. No chips or junk food. What’s a good, small recipe that’s easy to make, doesn’t include very many/exotic ingredients? Also that’s not very bad for you? I could also eat my dad’s microwave dinner for his lunches but I’m not sure if he needs it for tomorrow or not.. What do you think?

A: Make a grilled cheese sandwich. Put a slice of ham in with it if you have any.

Or make bachelor’s toast. Heat a little olive oil in a pan, and tear the center out of a slice of bread. Eat the center piece, put the rest of the slice of bread in the pan, and break an egg into it. After 2-3 minutes, flip the slice of bread, and fry until the egg is done. You’ve got protein and carbs all in one meal.

Q: Recipe for Gourmet Nachos?
Mmmm tonight I feel like making myself a big bowl of nachos for dinner but I don’t want basic nachos (ie just cheese, sour cream and salsa) I want gourmet cafe` style nachos with lots of different things added to it. Anyone ever had the nachos at Hard Rock Cafe? Something like that.
Don’t care how much effort or time to put it together, if anyone has any recipes of ideas of stuff I can throw in them that would be great!

Thanks

A: Ingredients:

* 3 oz Tortilla chips (about 2 large handfuls)
* 2/3 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella
* 1/4 cup sour cream
* 1/4 cup guacamole
* 1/2 cup refried beans or whole black beans, drained of liquid
* 1 small tomato, seeded and diced
* 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
* *Optional- Other topping ideas include sliced black olives, white or red onions and jalapeno rings
* *Optional- 1 cup of diced carne asada, carnitas or shredded chicken

Preparation:
Pre-heat broiler on high.

Heat refried beans over low heat until bubbly. Place half of the chips on an oven proof pie plate and cover with half the cheese. Carefully add the rest of the chips topped with the remaining cheese. Place under the broiler for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted. Carefully remove chips from broiler and drizzle on beans. Then add dollops of guacamole, sour cream and lastly, sprinkle on the tomatoes.

*If adding meat, freshly cooked is the best option, or re-heat pre-cooked meat until piping hot. Add right after the beans layer.

Q: May I have some recipe help, please?
I like to cook and bake, and I’m pretty bored. Could you provide me with some recipes that can be done with things commonly found in the kitchen? I’m pretty much stuck at home, and so I can’t go and buy new ingredients.

I’m not looking to make a big meal, maybe just a good recipe for a unique cookie (with simple ingredients, though), salad with a vinaigrette to go with it or a good dip/salsa. The only meat that I have thawed/ready to cook is ground beef. I don’t have any pasta right now, either… Unless I steal the shells from a Velveeta Shells box. :D

We have a pretty good, but basic collection of spices… Everything that people usually have… No Saffron or anything! Haha! :D

That’s the very basic idea of what I have to work with… Just what is usually found in a typical kitchen. I appreciate any recipes! :)

A: For your cookie, how about snickerdoodles. They aren’t unique but they’ve been around a long, long time and are really good plus more than likely you will have the appropriate ingredients. http://www.joyofbaking.com/Snickerdoodles.html

I made a dressing from here the other day, and it was really good. Pick a salad dressing and make a salad with whatever you have. http://www.finedinings.com/salads.htm

Q: Does anY oNe know how to make tofu, with basic ingredients found in my kitchen.?
Im looking up recipes online and they all call for ingredients that i dont have and some that ive never heard of. i just wanted to make an easy dish perhaps with salad or to go along with some salsa?????

A: reference has one recipe.

tofu is made from soy beans, and not too many kitchens have that. Buy a cake at any market, and it keeps for quite a while.

.

Q: Anyone have a delicious skillet pork chop recipe?
I need to use what I have on hand – no time to go to the store:

- four boneless pork chops
- condensed cream of mushroom soup (1 can)
- condensed tomato soup (1 can)
- lemon juice, lime juice
- baby carrots
- fresh baby spinach
- shredded iceburg lettuce
- salsa
- hot sauce (Frank’s Red Hot)
- a million different varieties of mustard (seems like it anyway)
- basic ingredients like oils, vinegars, honey, worcestershire, etc.
- basic seasonings like salt, pepper, parsley, oregano, etc. I am out of basil :(

I won’t have time to bake or slow cook anything so it has to be stove top. I usually dredge in bread crumbs then fry, but I’m looking for something different (saucy) to mix it up a bit. Thanks in advance for sharing!

A: season those babies- then brown them in a skillet with hot oil. Remove them and then brown some onions in the pan with the drippings, add the can of cream of mushroom soup with a cup of water and some cooking sherry (if you have) add the chops back in and simmer for 15-20 min, serve with white or brown rice and veggies…yummy
